Neurokinin receptor antagonists – a new non-hormonal treatment for menopause-related hot flushes and sweats
A new class of medicines, NK3 receptor antagonists, that act directly on the part of the brain responsible for vasomotor symptoms (the hypothalamus) has been shown to significantly reduce hot flushes and sweats. One of these, fezolinetant, has recently been approved by the UK Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).
NewWoman Health to participate in PCM Live Event, 19-20th May 2023, London
NewWoman Health are pleased to announce they will be participating at the Postcards from Midlife (PCM) Festival at the Business Design Centre in London on 19-20th May (link). PCM is a social media community aimed at Generation X women aged 40-60 and headed up by two ex-fashion editors (Lorraine Candy and Trish Halpin). NewWoman Health will have a speaker session and stand at the event with our Co-founder and some of our menopause physicians. Please come and see us at the event – we’d love to see you there!
2023 European Menopause Congress, Florence
The European Congress on Menopause and Andropause on 3-5th May in Florence is a yearly international conference that seeks to raise awareness of menopausal and post-menopausal health key issues for all areas of medicine, not just gynaecology. It also places emphasis on the need to individualise menopause treatment given that all women are different.
Several of our NewWoman Health menopause experts attended the Congress as participants and as presenters.
UK Government announcement to reduce HRT charges
From 1st April 2023 a new pre-payment certificate (HRT PPC) will be available in England that allows a year’s supply of HRT for £19.30 for the following items: patches, tablets & topical preparations. The HRT PPC can be used as many times as needed across the year. This is long overdue and should make HRT more accessible.
